Regional non-profits should have more access to commercial television to announce their projects… commercial television is not adequately supporting community interaction and participation. A law that would allow scrolling subscripts on all commercial television [especially advertising] for local non-profit organizations would be a good start. Citizens could vote every year as to which organizations they think are beneficial to their community and would therefore be allowed to scroll their public service announcements for a year. A petition to congress or a legislature might be the first step to get this rolling.

The big TV networks have become materialistic manipulators that care little about supporting community. Therefore, I created the petition below for everyone to copy, sign and send to their Senators and Representatives.

PUBLIC ACCESS TO COMMERCIAL TELEVISION ….. [PACT]

**** Whereas the availability of FREE TELEVISION TIME FOR PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS AND COMMUNITY NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS HAS ESSENTIALLY DISAPPEARED WITH LARGE NETWORK AND MEDIA CORPORATIONS; and

**** Whereas, the escalating cost of television time is deterring community non-profit organizations from buying television time, DISTORTING THE SENSE OF COMMUNITY, UNDERMINING PUBLIC CONFIDENCE IN DEMOCRATIC MEDIA, DIVERTING PUBLIC ATTENTION FROM IMPORTANT PUBLIC QUESTIONS, AND DEMEANING GRASSROOTS PARTICIPATION IN POLITICS AND COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION; and

**** Whereas the AIRWAYS ARE PUBLIC PROPERTY and should not be exploited by monopolizing media giants for the sole purpose of profit; and

Be it therefore resolved that:
[[1]] Two continuous scrolling subscripts on all television advertising should be made available without charge to national and state non-profit, non-religious organizations during all hours of operation, in accordance with sensible criteria.

[[2]] The scrolling text lines with solid background areas at the bottom of one fifth of the screen should be available for public service announcements and consumer interest information submitted by these non-profit organizations that have been voted yearly by the local citizens to be of value to their local and/or the world community.

[[3]] All television broadcasters, cable operators and advertisers should be required by law as a condition of operating their business to provide this citizen access to scrolling on TV advertisements.

The inexpensive/ FREE version could be a large card or dashboard shade with a days-not-driven dial – like one of those clocks on a door that tells us when the storekeeper will be back. It would have TWO different hands. One hand would point to the number of days not driven in the last week and one hand would point to the number of days not driven since the beginning of the year. These hands could be moved by the owner/operator of the car. [[The techie version could have a slick digital LED/flat screen and car computer interface to record these statistics.]] Some notes on this idea are at XOEarth.org

=== THE “ECO-TIPS” LABEL LOTTERY ===
The first step is to make available to the consumer a set of 30 or more eco-tip labels/ stickers that they may apply to the appropriate consumer items in their home and car. Three ways to make them available would be direct mail, at local energy conservation offices or via the internet. The consumer would then be free to apply the labels as instructed or as they choose.

To give a consumer more motivation and recognition in their community for their voluntary labeling actions, a Eco-Tips sticker or sign would also be made available to affix somewhere outside their home for neighbors and friends to see. It could be placed on the front door, window, fence or in the yard in a location where the Eco-Tips info and contact info could be read by passersby. It would also be a demonstration to neighbors and friends that there are people in their community that are taking actions to conserve energy.

Here is the kicker! The people who put the sign up in their yard and put the labels in their homes would qualify to enter an “Eco-Tips/ Earth-Tips/ Life-Tips/ Energy-Tips” [working titles] cash lottery. To enter the lottery, all they would have to do is send in a postcard saying that they have applied the labels/ stickers to the relevant items in their home and car AND have put up their “Eco-Tips” participant sign on the outside of the house for passersby to read.

At regular intervals there would be a lottery. The lottery organization would then drive by the first qualifier’s house. If the sign is visible from the road, the qualifier would then be contacted. If not, the next name drawn in the lottery would be checked out.

Once a qualifier was found with a sign that is easily readable from the street, the qualifier would be called on the phone. They would be asked to state or send in the locations of at least [15?] labels in and around their home and car. The qualifier would also be asked to state three energy savings actions that they have taken in their household to help protect our planet. [Obviously an honor system.]

Once they have met the above final qualifications they will be announced as the winners in the media AND will be awarded a cash prize.

FIRST BONUS CASH AWARD: Here is an idea for an bonus cash award on top of the regular cash prize. If the winner has also made a contribution to a land trust or organization that helps protect areas that are a carbon sink or protect open space, then they get a bonus cash award that is proportional to the contribution amount (up to an established amount). This award can be justified because the person will be saving money because of these “Eco-Tips” AND it would be a fun way to encourage people to become active in protecting these areas.

SECOND BONUS CASH AWARD:
If the person has made an extra sign to put outside that talks about their favorite energy conservation action, they receive a second bonus cash award.

This project could be run by the EPA, DOE, local energy conservation offices or a non-profit. Non-government organizations would be given a government grant to run the program.

Put corporate abuse and negative environmental policies out to dry by installing and cranking up your new Clothesline Climatron [with built in Personal Communicator] – the latest innovation in corporate abuse protest communication and energy educator. The Clothesline Climatron differs from the conventional age-old clothesline in two vital ways.

The first difference is that the owner of the Clothesline Climatron is authorized to hang his or her personal protest of the abuses of corporations in the form of a painted or printed shirt, pants, dress, bed sheet, parejos [sp?] or any other suitable fabric or paper. The Clothesline Climatron can be used inside or outside of the home of the user. However, to turn on the full power of the Clothesline Climatron, it should be strung in the front yard or on the front deck of the owner so your neighbors can see it. If you have clothing with corporate logos promoting irresponsible companies, draw a circle and slash indicating “NOT” around the logos or advertisements with a red permanent marker or red paint. Then hang them out to dry.

The second difference is that that the owner of this clothesline is rewarded with knowledge that they are making a substantial potential environmental impact by NOT using a clothes dryer, which is one of the most inefficient appliances in the home. Plus the operator of this clothesline knows they are lowering their utility bill as well. For example, if everyone in the U.S. will install an inside or outside clothesline to dry their clothes, we could reduce our pollution by more than the belching of more than 10 large power plants put together!

NOTE: To convert any conventional clotheslines to a CC, the owner must simply start using their clothesline as protest tool and offer its use to neighbors who do not have clotheslines.

Clotheslines are a great symbol in themselves. When was the last time you saw an ad for a clothesline. However, you have probably seen many ads for energy sucking clothes dryers in your paper and on TV over the years. Why? Because there is not the big dollar profit in clotheslines. But in fact, a clothesline is superior to a dryer in many ways. Clothes last longer. Leaves the small fibers intact so that the clothes stay softer. The sun does the bleaching – not the chlorine. A piece of small diameter rope. Whoopee.

Welcome to the GREEN BEING THEATER.

In this edition we will ask our actors to carry out specific rational acts of protest against the excessive use of pesticides, petroleum products, cleansers and other dangerous chemicals in our communities, businesses and farmlands. High scoring actors will be presented the Green Being Award from XOEarth.

Our savvy actors know that:
Our wise actors know
Our ultra excellent actors know
Our SUPER GREEN BEING actors know
That food that does not look perfect or that has a few bugs on it is preferable to pesticide treated food.

That vinegar, baking soda, vegetable soap, borax and salt, are excellent cleansers that can replace nearly all of the expensive polluting commercial cleansers in the home, in businesses and the garden.

That many common petroleum compounds have recombination dangers that are not researched or documented

That many insects and weeds can be limited with appropriate habitat landscaping that is pesticide free.

That advertisements that push a myriad of pretty everyday consumer products, do not have to mention that many of the weird chemicals used to make them cause allergies, hormone imbalances, cancer, circulatory problems, mental illness and ecological havoc.

So actors, here are your three Green Being Theater challenges to choose from:

=#1= Make an anti-chemical sports-jacket out of the little anti-allergy boxes and other appropriate medication boxes. Make the sleeves out of pictures and symbols of our chemically harassed society. On the lapel and your shirt, sew on slogans such as “Pesticides are Pukie” AND “Common Commercial Chemicals Can Create Complex Caustic Covert Combinations Of Killing Creeping Crud” AND “Petroleum Products Putrefy Our Planet” AND “Commercial Cleansers are a Con”. On your knickers, slap on a plea to the corporations to stop their rosy-posy worldwide chemical marketing scams. Once your outfit is completed, visit your regional government offices and businesses. Submit your outfit to the Smithsonian Institute when it starts wearing out.

=here is #2= Find a snorkeling mask and snorkel. Attach a barbecue charcoal bag to your chest. Run a hose from the snorkel to the charcoal bag to simulate a carbon filter breathing apparatus. Add on a sign that says, “ACME CAUSTIC CHEMICAL PROTECTION FILTER” and your own relevant slogans. With this activistic sports-gear, tour the grocery stores, businesses and government offices in your community and hand out brochures from the National Coalition Against the Misuse of Pesticides or other anti-chemical misuse organizations.

=challenge #3= Attach signs to your bicycle such as, “CHEMICAL ABUSE STINKS: ITS SILENT BUT DEADLY” and other appropriate signs. Add on a little box on the handle bars to hold free anti-chemical danger cards that people can take. Invite your friends to join you in an anti-pesticide, anti-chemical abuse bicycle-cade in the next parade in your region.

=lastly #4= Wear an asthma inhaler necklace or a surgical mask around your neck on a tour of local businesses. Invite your friends to join in. Have some anti-chemical-abuse business cards ready to hand out.

So there you have it actors. Start now on your chosen challenge. Once you have completed your challenge, please send verification of your action GREENTOPIA. Outstanding actors will be given the Green Being Award and certificate and will be honored in a XOEarth press releases to our media contacts.

>> Your client can give you evidence of an environmental contribution they have made or membership they have for a discount on your products or services.

ECO-BIZ$$ ACTION #3 – Create an auction, raffle or special sale for your services or products to benefit an environmental org.

Update: Seduce Me: ‘Green Porno’ Star Isabella Rossellini Has a New Show About Animal Attraction

Isabella Rossellini knows her bug sex. The Italian model and film star wrote, directed, and starred in “Green Porno,” a series of films detailing the sex lives of various bugs, arachnids, and molluscs. They originally debuted at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year (and showed at the Berlin Film Festival, among others) and are now available, for your viewing pleasure, on Sundance’s website.

If you’ve ever wondered how bees have sex (not as romantic as you might think), or wondered about the sadomasochistic habits of snails, these are for you (though, just as fair warning: the videos make mention of the organs and acts required to accomplish reproduction).
