Rebel + Strike : Protest everyday for 4+ minutes w/ 2 billion peeps

Share

XOEarth Rebel + Strike is a call for 2 billion lovers of the Earth to do a climate protest every day for 4 minutes or more - either solo or in a group.

Help us get governments and citizens to take major ecological actions NOW so that the climate change monsters do not kill 50% of all multi-cellular life on our biosphere in the next 9 years.

[Of course, your daily solo climate protests are in addition to the big crucial group protests that you take part in too - that are initiated by your fave climate action organizations. Some of our faves are Extinction Rebellion, 350.org, Sunrise Movement, Greenpeace USA, Sierra Club, Rising Tide North America, Extinction Rebellion International, Global Climate Strike, XOEarth via facebook.]

One way to Rebel or Strike is to hold or wear a small or big climate action sign or tag in a public space, in or near a business, or at work.

While you Rebel or Strike, if you want to, ask people who are walking by to promise to take a specific climate action - such as burning very little fossil fuels, or fighting hard to save our sweet but dying Earth, or protesting a business that is selling Earth killing products, or for using very few single use products, or to join you in your Rebel or Strike action. Honor a person's promise with a handshake, a little award, a cool science fact, art, hug, dance, poem or something else.

Another way to Rebel or Strike is to stand or sit where you can slow down or stop people who are near or who are entering a business while holding or wearing a small or big climate action sign or tag.

While you Rebel or Strike this way, if you want to, say "Before you pass, will you promise to [state a specific climate action such as, eat plant-based, or, eat very little or no animal products, or, buy little or no unnecessary products, or, volunteer 400 minutes every week with some project (HERO 400)] to save our awesome but failing biosphere". Honor a person's promise with a handshake, a little award, a cool science fact, art, hug, dance, poem or something else.

Check out XOEarth.org/Honors and XOEarth.org/Awards for more ways to honor people for their promises.

Even if you don't know if a person is taking a specific action, you can call out to thank them for that action, in hopes they will take that action in the future.

To make your Rebel or Strike more newsworthy and fun, add something creative or artistic to your Rebel or Strike action. Other ways to Rebel or Strike are described below.

XOEarth Rebel or Strike is in support of the above organizations that are doing group direct actions to slow down the climate monsters, not as a substitute for them. Therefore, when you are doing a Rebel or Strike, encourage others to join both these organizations too.

+ Encourage people to make specific sustainable choices at home, play and work.
+ Encourage businesses to take an action that is sustainable, humane and equitable.

More XOEarth Rebel or Strike script, call-outs, chant and dialog examples ::

+ "Stand with me to show that you oppose oil drilling in the arctic, the oceans and the forests..."
+ "Thanks for using less gasoline and fossil fuels to help our biosphere live longer so we can have more fun..."
+ "Stand with us if you promise to burn less fossil fuels this year to slow down climate change..."
+ "Stand with me if you promise to take actions to slow down that climate change monster this year..."
+ "Stand with me to show that try hard to use less gas, plastic and electricity so we can keep it in the ground..."
+ "Stand with us if you promise to eat less meat this year to help stop the climate change, hurricanes, fires and floods..."

XOEarth Rebel or Strike inside of businesses can done in way to ::

+ Have a good chance that the business's management responds respectfully.
+ Have a good chance that customers are respectful and some supportive.
+ Honor a business for promising NOT buying or selling an unsustainable product, or FOR operating sustainably. [Although businesses may say - at least publicly - that they do not want to be honored in this way.]

So create your own XOEarth Rebel or Strike action(s) and do a protest every day, in some way. Why? Because your XOEarth Rebel or Strike actions will help extend the life of the planet so we all get the chance to have more fun on this exquisite planet Earth!!

Rebel or Strike Notes ::

XOEarth Honors has a bunch of fun ways to use your talents or an XOEarth Award to honor businesses once they have taken the ethical eco action you have asked them to take. Offering the reward to the business when making a request is a respectful way to encourage them to make the change.

Other Rebel or Strike actions are typically longer and more intense than the XOEarth Rebel or Strike detailed here, so if you prefer to call it an XOEarth Stand, that's fine.

When doing an XOEarth Rebel or Strike with *ecofx* on the sidewalk in front of a business that is not eco ethical, call out the square meters or square yards of habitat being lost due to the business's shameful actions or sales.

Walk around the area as many times as necessary to represent the loss of habitat every time the business takes that anti-ecological action - or to represent multiples of that area.

Thank a business that agrees to take or consider taking an ecological action does not have to be a big thing. To thank them, use a song, a poem, a drawing, an dance or a signed XOEarth Award that you can print at XOEarth.org/honors, a cartwheel or thousands of other cool things.

So XOEarth Rebel or Strike today to help inspire others to take crucial environmental actions and join us in the billions of ecological protests our planet needs to manifest a more eco conscious and committed humanity.

Twinkling the business Up or Down might go nicely with your XOEarth Rebel or Strike biz direct action.

Sign and Tag Tips ::

Whether it is a big sign that you hold or a small tag that you wear around your neck, these are important tools to get your climate action messages out there, and help build the global climate action movement.

Even a small quarter page sign can work well if you want to do a subtle Rebel or Strike. Plus, that little sign can duplicated to be used as a quarter page flyer that you can give out to passersby and customers.

Our Tats + Tags + Style page has a lot of fun ideas about how to make small and big wearable Tags [chest signs].

These Tags [chest signs] can be made with a manila folder and a string necklace. For example, make your climate action sign on 1/2 of a letter 11.5" x 9.5" manila folder and then hang it over a long string necklace that is about 14.5" inches long. This body sign can be worn for hours while a person is doing other things - such as errands around town, work, play and school. Because the folder can be flipped up to show the other sides to use it like 4 signs. If you want to, put a paper clip, clothespin or binder clip on the bottom of the sign to keep the folder flat. This sign is one of Stele's new favorites.

A small postcard sized sign can be mounted like a flag on a chopstick or a straw by using a small binder clip, tape or paper clip. Or by making 2 small holes in the sign and threading the chopstick through the holes. See pic right.

As an option to carrying a paper sign, a green and/or blue clothe or flag with the appropriate words and/or the planet drawn on it.

A little sign can also be mounted like a flag on a fork, by weaving the card in and out of the tines. See pic right.

A ball-cap hat with a sign can be made with a binder clip[s]. Just flip the bill up and attach the sign to the front with the binder clip. See pic right.

Share pics of your Rebel or Strike signs, tags and props to our XOEarth Facebook, and your Facebook, social networks and beyond.

Biz Notes ::

Before doing an XOEarth Rebel or Strike, you may want to first ask the business to stop taking a specific Earth killing action. Ask them to sign a promise to do so. The agreement does not have to be typed or fancy. An agreement that is handwritten is fine.

If the manager or business owner says they will stop taking the Earth damaging action, ask the manager to sign two copies of the pledge, one for the business and one for you, that states that they will stop taking that environmentally bad action.

Then thank the business manager for agreeing to take the specified eco action and give them an XOEarth Award. If appropriate, celebrate with them for a moment, sing them a song, recite a poem, or offer a gift.

If appropriate, once they have said yes, buy something from that business, go outside the business to celebrate their agreement to take the stated ecological business action.

When a business signs a pledge to make their biz more eco, show the signed paper to passersby and invite them to celebrate the victory. Take a picture of the signed agreement and share it with your contacts.

If the manager or owner of the business says they will not agree to the requests, but say they will consider the request. Then say, "OK, will you please sign that you and your business's management will consider this request?" If they say yes, then write these words on the bottom of the statement. "This is only a statement of request. This manager (or owner) agrees that this business will consider this request(s)."

Take a picture of the signed agreement, and email it to your contacts. Show the signed paper to passersby and invite them to cheer on the victory.

If a business says they will NOT stop taking the action that hurts our planet and the people, and will NOT sign an agreement to consider the request, THEN (while in front of the owner/ manager) on the bottom of the agreement write, on this day "date here" owner (or manager) "their name here" has refused to sign this request to consider. Signed, "your name here".

To make the Rebel or Strike more relevant, occupy an area on the sidewalk in front of the business that represents the loss of habitat potential - or a representative fraction thereof - due to the Earth harming action that the business takes. Use *XOEarth ecofx* to calculation or estimate that area. Walk around, stand on the border or sit in that area.

For a more determined Rebel or Strike action, tell the manager that you are going to occupy an area on the sidewalk in front of the business that represents the loss of habitat potential (or a representative fraction thereof) due to the Earth harming action that the business takes. Again, use *XOEarth ecofx* to calculation or estimate that area. Then walk around, stand on the border or sit in that area.

Rebel or Strike Cheerleaders ::

As a Rebel or Strike Cheerleader, it can be cool to have some pom-poms that you have upcycled from an old t-shirt or something else.

To be a Rebel or Strike Cheerleader for a bunch of people, lead an audience or group in a cheer for an eco person who has just made a speech, after seeing a good green movie, at an eco meeting or other ecological events.

For another example, cheer on a friend or a customer by *ringing the bell* when they do something eco cool. Businesses can have a little bell, a chime, a drinking glass and spoon, a cow bell or something else for the checkout clerk to *ring* when a customer shows they have taken an eco action. The bell should have a nice sound. Customer eco actions might include bringing their own bag, bringing reusable containers, biking to the store or donating to a eco charity box at the checkstand.

Here's another Rebel or Strike Cheerleader idea. Even if you were not on the schedule at a meeting or event that mentions or is about an eco success story or eco successful individual -- if it feels right -- stand up, or jump up and down, or stand up on your chair, or even go up in front on the stage and cheer the crowd on. For a bigger challenge lead the crowd in a specific cheer -- or in a sing along Pete Seeger style.

If you want to, use a couple handkerchiefs as pom-poms, or a few pieces of string or ribbon. Do bring your pom-poms if you want to really get into classic cheerleader style. Make your pom-poms from upcycled t-shirts or other materials if you want to rep the sustainable attitude.

So calmly or energetically get up on that stage in front of the crowd or audience and help make it an ecos gone wild day for our mother Earth.

I have found that when I stand up and cheer on the crowd, some of the crowd seems reluctant. However, I have talked to some of those folks that seemed reluctant and have found that they liked cheering for an eco success story and our planet. I think that a lot of green folks really want to let loose and cheer more -- but peer pressure keeps them from whooping it up.

Also, even though some of the audience members may appear a bit annoyed as they are clapping or cheering, they are actually happy that you are getting them and others to stand up and support the eco actions or eco issue that you are cheering about. Some of these same "calm clappers" have told me that they wish more people would have stood up and cheered.

Thousands of people jam the stadiums so they can yell out loud for the big victories -- or small advances -- their team makes against the other team.

It's time for us on Team XOEarth to holler and cheer and boo too -- while having a good time supporting our side. Not only is it super fun and good for moral, it's a great way to recruit other Team XOEarth players cuz we gotta show em the eco game is a fun game too.

Team XOEarth needs its fans and cheerleaders to be heard -- and it may be cheer now or cheer never.

By the way, for those wanting a paying eco job, our Sustainability Cheerleaders + Manager article uses some of these concepts at career level.

Here are a couple more ways to do an XOEarth Rebel or Strike action ::

+ Stand somewhere in or outside of a business or public space. Take 14 plastic bags and attach them to your body, around your neck and on your head.
And maybe, take small pieces of plastic bags and stick them in your pockets, arm cuffs, and tucked in other places in your clothing. Stand on a few bags.
Then strike a pose. When people walk by, say, "Thanks for using very little single-use plastic to reduce the use of fracking gas, to help slow down the climate change monster".
+ Sit in front of a biz or public space. Hold or wear a Climate Change related picture. Take empty motor oil bottles and attach them to your body, around your neck and on your head. And maybe, stick some pieces of black plastic bag or licorice in your ears, one nostril, a little piece hanging out of your mouth. Stand on a few bottles.
Then strike a pose. When people walk by, say, "Thanks for using burning less gasoline to help slow down the drilling for oil in our oceans and tar sand mining in our forests".

An XOEarth Rebel or Strike goal is to inspire others to ::

+ Help slow down climate change and extend the life of our dying biosphere.
+ Help manifest a more peaceful, fair and livable society and world.
+ Stop the murder of this exquisite planet's lifeforms - humans included.

Cheers ::

For all beings of the future
For all life that loves to live
For all children not yet born
For all lovers yet to kiss
For humankind, forest-kind, swimming-kind, flying-kind, tree kind, ocean-kind
Thank you for not (using styrofoam, using excess plastic bags, selling bottled water, burning excess gasoline, not carbon offsetting, taking a job that kills, eating unsustainable food)
For all the life that loves to live,
for all the fish that love to swim,
for all the kids that want to play
for all the moose that want to bugle
for all the owls that like to fly
For all lovers yet to kiss

    Environmental protesters block access to Parliament Square :: Demonstration organised by Extinction Rebellion aims to highlight government failure on the environment
    About 50 activists from Extinction Rebellion, a direct action group that has been coordinating a campaign of civil disobedience which has brought areas of the capital to a standstill in recent weeks, risked arrest by standing defiantly in roads in front of queueing traffic.
    An estimated 1,000 more demonstrators, many clad in black clothing, massed on the green in Parliament Square for what organisers labelled a “memorial service” to mourn the loss of life on the planet.
    Many waved banners emblazoned with slogans including “System change, not climate change” and “Rebel for life” as they listened to speeches.

    Financial fraud and corporate crime are carried out with impunity. The decay is exacerbated by the state’s indiscriminate use of violence abroad and at home, where rogue law enforcement agencies harass and arrest citizens and the undocumented and often kill the unarmed. A depressed and enraged population, trapped by chronic unemployment and underemployment, is overdosing on opioids and beset by rising suicide rates. It engages in acts of nihilistic violence, including mass shootings. Hate groups proliferate.
