BAR SOAP ROPE

I use a Bar Soap Rope to dry out my bar soap between my showers or baths, and to slow down the crazy flood of plastic being made for single-use junk.

The Bar Soap Rope makes the soap easier to hold on to while bathing too. The ‘rope’ around the soap can also be used as a little scrubber or for lightly exfoliating your skin when you want to.

It’s easy to make a Bar Soap Rope with some light cord, string or yarn that is about 48 inches or 122 mm long. A Bar Soap Rope made with a Prusik hitch knot holds on to the bar soap quite nicely when using the soap. As the soap gets smaller I just pull on the hitch a little bit to tighten it up again.

The Prusik knot or the Lark’s Head knot [pictured] can be used to make a Bar Soap Rope.

For my Bar Soap Rope I prefer the Prusik hitch knot because the 4 wraps of the cord around the soap [or 6 wraps if you want to go big] makes the hitch even more scrubby, exfoliative and easier to hold onto. [Prusik knot/ Wikipedia]

The way I put a Prusik knot on my bar soap is wrap the loop two [or three] times around before running the ends of the cord through the loop. I also do a double wrap through the loop to help the hitch stay snug. So yes, I tie the Prusik a little differently than the classic Prusik.

The Bar Soap Rope picture has the Lark’s Head knot because it’s a teeny bit easier than the Prusik knot to tie, and I want a lot of peeps to use the Bar Soap Rope ASAP.
