BlingBike :: Reflective Helmet Flags / Reflective Bike and Helmet Stickers / Head Light For Handlebars / Rack Extender / Other Things

Check out these BlingBike reflective tips, and our other BlingBike products. More fun biking safe!!

Reflective Helmet Flags [ziptie + r-tape]

Make your own, or buy a BlingBike Reflective Helmet Flag kit from us. They are made from reflective tape or fabric attached to a heavy duty zip tie.

Attach the big, medium or small sized zip tie to the top of your helmet and then add the reflective tape or fabric that you get from us or buy somewhere else. Your BlingBike Reflective Helmet Flag will stick up in air while you are biking and make you more visible to all. Pick large, medium or small zip ties.

I recommend the heavy zip ties. The lighter weight ties tend to get broken more easily, and sometimes don’t stand up as well.

Helmet Light [flashlight + O-ring]

Make your own, or buy one from us. A BlingBike Helmet Light is made from a simple 4.5 inch tubular tactical LED flashlight, and a 5.5 x .165 inch O-ring.

Attaching the BlingBike Helmet Light to your helmet may be easy to complex, depending on the helmet design.

For some helmets, the basic installation method is to first run the O-Ring through the piece of tubing that we send you. Then run both loop ends of the O-Ring up through one of the holes on the top of the helmet. Then wrap one loop of the O-Ring around the front of the flashlight. Then wrap one loop of the O-Ring around the back of the flashlight. Try the next method if this does work on your helmet.

For other helmets, the basic installation method is to first wrap part of the O-Ring around the front end of the flashlight. Then run the rest of the O-Ring down through one of the holes on the top of the helmet. Then run the O-Ring back up out of a different hole in the helmet. Then wrap the rest of the O-Ring around the other end of the flashlight. Try the next method if this does get a groovy light on your helmet.

For other helmets, send pictures of your helmet and we will suggest another method.

Do not make extra holes in your helmet to attach the light. Making extra holes in your helmet is not safe.

The light we send you may vary in length from 4 to 5 inch. The 5.5 inch O-ring is an OR-100 from Culligan and was designed for the big blue filter units.

We can sell you the light and O-ring and a bead. Proceeds support XOEarth.org projects. Or get them on Amazon or at a hardware store.

BikeRack Prusik Loops [paracord]

Use these BikeRack Prusik Loops to hook your bungee cords to the bike rack vertical struts. It makes your bungee cords far more adjustable.

They are easy to make on your own out of any ~4mm cord.

To make the sliding adjustable loops just wrap a 10 inch piece of cord around one of the vertical struts 4 or 5 times and then tie the two ends together. Do not tie it too tight so there will be enough room to attach a bungie hook. Then cut off any extra cord. What is left will be a little 2 to 3 cm vertical coil on the stay. Then do the same thing on the other vertical strut.

Once you have that coil of cord on both vertical stays on the rack you can use them as vertically adjustable attachment sites for your bungie cords. To adjust an attachment site just slide the coil up or down on the stay.

Once you attach the bungie hook and it is pulling on the coil, the coil wraps will hold onto the strut and lock in that position. It works like a Prusik climbing knot. So now you can hook the bungie in any location up and down on the rack stay.

Again, when load is applied to the loop the other ‘prusik’ coils will lock in place.

With a little finesse, the coil ‘prusik’ can be slid up and down even when the bungie is attached.

If you want us to send you the cord for free send us a self-addressed stamped legal envelope and we will cut some for you for 4 bikes and send it to you.

Or send us $24 and your address and we will send you enough cording to put these loops on 4 bikes.

Although these little BlingBike Bungie Cord Extenders are easy to make, we are happy to make and mail them to you.

Rear Rack Extender [24x.8.x.5″ rods]

Adding 24 inch wood square dowel rods to rear rack is a simple way to make the rack longer so you can carry a lot more stuff. Two 24 X .8 x .5 inch dowel rods are a good size. Running two bungie cords over the middle of the rack will keep them on. Or use 2 or 4 hose clamps to keep them on super tight. But I have used the bungies for years to keep the dowels on and that has worked well for me.

When you don’t need the rack to be longer you can push the dowels more towards the front of the rack. With the dowel rods I have been able to put three short full fruit boxes on back of my bike numerous times. When I use those rack extenders it kinda makes it feel like I have a xtra cycle.

If you are not sure how to make them, attach them and use them we can send you pics.

We can sell you the bike rack extenders. Proceeds support XOEarth.org projects. Or search for square dowel rods on Amazon, or get them from a hardware store.

Bike Light [flashlight + hose clamps]

Use two inter linked hose clamps for a super neat way to mount a small or medium flashlight on your bike handlebar. Attaching two hose clamps together like two chain links is the trick. One hoseclamp goes around the handlebars. The other hoseclamp is used to hold the flashlight. The direction the light is pointed is adjustable. I have used this trick for years to put 800 to 1000 lumen bike flash lights on my bike.

Hose clamps can be tightened just enough so the light angle can be adjusted as you bike. Hose clamp attached lights may be less likely to get stolen.

We can sell you the hose clamps and flashlight. Proceeds support XOEarth.org projects. Or get the hose clamps and flashlight on Amazon, or from a hardware store.

Bike Flash Light with Hose Clamps / $34

Reflective Ribbons [silver fabric]

To BlingBike your bike even more, you can add reflective ribbons in various places. How about the back of the seat, frame, and handle bars.

We can sell you some reflective ribbons. Proceeds will support XOEarth.org projects. Or, search for silver reflective fabric tape on Amazon to get it for less.

MORE GOAT HEAD BUSTERS MEANS LESS FLAT TIRES ON BIKES
Remove Goat Head plants along biking paths.
Dried Goat Head seeds are sharp, hard and
can puncture bike tires. They have low lying,
flat radiating stems with little 5mm thorn
heads. Pull out the Goat Head plants and
compost them. Be a Tribulus terrestris Goat
Head Buster today so less people get bicycle
tire flats. One gallon of gasoline not burned
may save 8 square meters of habitat
    potential for one year.
