skies of blue and fields of green
water full of atrazine
hundred acres to explore
acres full of alaclore
hey hey ho ho
mom and dad how could they know
ho ho hey hey
herbicides done made me gay

when I was a tiny tot
2. 4. D and Paraquat
seeped below my prairie home
fractured my x chromosone

hey hey my my
all these years I wondered why
my my heh heh
herbicides done made me gay

if your well is full of glyphosaent
then the chance is good the chance is great
that you’ll much prefer a same sex mate
it’s true from maine to california
listen people let me warn ya

think before you spray weeds
think exactly where that leads
generations just like me
watching endless hours of glee

hey hey dang dang
singing along with katie lang
dang dang hey hey
herbicides done made me gay

We use synthetic chemicals for everything from plastics to pesticides. They eventually make their way from our farms, households or industry into the environment – and into our bodies. And they may be affecting our reproductive health – indeed, even our sexual preferences. Producer Ashley Ahearn reports.

About Susan Werner
“One of the most innovative songwriters working today.” Chicago Tribune
“(Werner is) a songwriter and musician who is in such complete command of her gifts that it’s almost scary.” All Music Guide
“When it comes to crafting a song, Ms. Werner’s only peers are Jimmy Webb and Paul Simon.” No Depression
“Susan Werner, a clever songwriter and an engaging performer, brings literacy and wit back to popular song.” The New Yorker
… newly harvested (handpicked, naturally) tunes like “City Kids” and “Something To Be Said” suggest farmers really do have the right idea, giving us sissy-fied urbanites a case of back-to-the-soil envy.
