Ask for Big [Not Little] Climate Actions

Research has shown that honoring people for small eco actions can encourage people to be even more destructive to the Earth.

This is because honoring people for little climate actions helps some people justify consuming far more fossil fuels in other parts of their live.
So it’s better to ask people to take big [not small] climate and go to hero level in most cases.

Words for Honoring

Ideas for what to say when giving one of the XOEarth Honors ::

+ “May I give you [an XOEarth Award, or some other XOEarth Honor] to thank you for taking that big eco action for our planet.” [A few big eco actions include getting your neighborhood or business to bike to work, EarthDare 14 people every month month to use a clothesline, donating 24% of time and net income to environmental organizations that are fighting climate change, completing an XOEarth EarthDare]

+ “Thanks for taking that big eco logical action that will extend the life of our exquisite planet. May I give you this XOEarth (environmental award, or some other honor) to honor you for taking that eco action.”

+ “Here’s an XOEarth (environmental award, or some other honor) to show my appreciation for completing the *big eco challenge* that I gave you.”

+ “Thanks for taking that superb environmental action that will extend the life of our exquisite planet, and therefore, thanks for saving my life too. Here’s an XOEarth (environmental award, or some other honor) for taking that action.”

+ “Tell me about a big climate action that you have taken for the planet in the last month, and I’ll give you an XOEarth (environmental award, or some other honor).”

+ Paste an XOEarth Environmental Award or Money into an email or blog with a message saying, “Thanks for taking that big eco logical action .”

+ “Thanks for the big eco logical actions you take this year that will extend the life of our exquisite but dying planet.” (This is a good line to say to anyone anywhere – even if you don’t know what actions they will take for the planet. It’s often not necessary to give another Honor in addition to this line.)

+ “Thanks for the big climate change actions that you take this year that will save the Earth and my life.” (Here is another good line to say to anyone anywhere. Even if you don’t know what eco actions they will take. Great conversation starter. And although it sounds a bit bold, it works quite well and is one of XOEarth Man’s favorites!)

Doing an eco dance, giving a hand massage or victory jumps are some of the eco award ideas described on the Jump. Dance. Kiss. page. There is even an XOEarth Kiss that is safe for workplace and beyond. >>

XOEarth Environmental Awards and XOEarth Money are a classy way to honor others for making ecological choices or for taking environmental actions. To use them digitally, copy and paste any of the XOEarth Award images and send them via email, post on Facebook or use them in blog posts to honor eco friends, eco employees and others. Or, print-out the XOEarth Awards and then give them to eco friends and others. >>


The *Slow* XOEarth Awards have a place on the front where you can write the eco action a friend has taken, and a place to add your signature. The *Fast* XOEarth Awards don’t have to be filled out and look more like money. >>

XOEarth Bracelets, Bandanas and Necklaces that are easy to make are a super way to acknowledge eco friends. >>

The XOEarth EarthDares are challenges to friends, businesses, gov offices and other people to take or promise to take big climate actions, along with an offer to reward their climate action with a story, victory dance, art, song or some other fun thing. >>

An XOEarth Credit/ Discount is a credit that businesses give to eco customers if they bring in a *Love letter to the Earth* stating what they have done for the planet in the last week, or, bring in eco money that they have received from others for their eco actions. Eco conscious businesses are invited to check out XOEarth Credit and our Six Carbon Offsets project for more info. >>

Dress up as an Earth super hero, a wild animal, a tree, or XOEarth Man or XOEarth Woman when you thank people for their eco actions. Also, call on XOEarth Man to come sing XOEarth Awards via live video for your friends or employees. XOEarth Man can sing eco challenges and/or give XOEarth Awards at your biz, school or party or via skype, phone or custom video. If you are in Boulder he can come in person. >>

Do the XOEarth Twinkle by wiggling fingers in the air to thank businesses and friends for the environmental actions they take. The XOEarth Twinkle can also be used to honor EarthDares. The E Twinkle melds the E Handsign and the twinkle handsign that was started by the Occupy movement. >>

Our XOEarth Games can be played anywhere to give friends a chance to win rad things for taking environmental actions. >>

Card

There is an updated XOEarth Honors card! Ask us and we will update this page with the new card version!

In most cases, the cards will be 3.5 inches wide when printed. If the cards are not this size when you print them, open the “Print Preview’ window and then adjust the scale/percentage to 100%.

If you are not printing in color, printing with black ink on colored paper is a good option. We give out cards printed with black ink on colored paper at schools and fairs — and they work great.

Printing the XOEarth Pledge cards on heavier paper is a nice — but optional.

Have fun flashing your XOEarth Honors Pledge cards to others to encourage them to join you in creating eco media, and to help empower a visible ecological society.
